Why are Space Simulators So Special?
Why do we love space simulator games so much? Is it for the space exploration? The weapons, the lasers, or the aliens?
In today's video, I briefly discuss a small handful of reasons why I believe we're so drawn to games that occur in space - and why we unfortunately can't have them as a reality.

PACIFIST GAME COMMENTARY - PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS
This is the longest winded form of cope I have ever seen.
That's an interesting take. Unusual, but interesting.
I played Elites for a long time. Also play X2 and X3TC and even NMS But none ever even close beating SC's ships design. Was thinking to get X4F but the ships design is what preventing me to play. Specially if you played SC before. If you interested for a complex sophisticated space sim, you may want to try X4 Foundation
Elite dangerous is by far a better game. Star Citizen is a great concept, but an absolute buggy terribly optimized mess. Same missions over and over, The only thing that works is the Pledge store.
@@lanceobe6801 Elite being a far better game is your opinion. 4.0.1 has been running (for me) phenomenally well. It sounds like one of the unusual issues at the moment is that some people have some bugs and some people don’t, however with server meshing, there is currently 600 people or so to one server shard, while running at 25-30 server FPS. Before 4.0, it was 100 people, with most servers running at 10 or less. I’m seeing players at every station, every major system, and going in and out of the jump points to Pyro. In Elite, I barely saw anyone, even in the places that should be busy like Shinrarta Dezhra and Achenar.
Have you gone back to Elite 😂?
Nope. Last played December 29th, 2022. Just played Star Citizen all night.
Star Citizen - There's a sucker born every minute.
Im ditching star citizen for elite and playing it on the xbox ha still love both games
Let us just accept the fact that ED and SC are two different type of games, though we won't see the inside of our ship in ED, it still offers a lot of things that SC can't give us and it's the same the other way around, I just thought that it's kinda unfair to compare a game that has been fully released already to something that is on ALPHA and has a huge backing. Let's put it this way, what if, ED has the same kind of financial backing as SC? Would most of us think that it will be the best space sim game ever made?
Lol, your SC is shady as fuck. So far I did not see anything of value in it.
cig can't even get the elevators to work. They know this and still added two more elevators that don't work. The freight elev eats absolutely everything that i put in it, the ships fall through the ship elev floor
I did the exact opposite. After 4 years and over 5 grand, I ditched star cit for elite. The commy simp moderators at spectrum helped me decide that. It didn't matter what I posted to the site, whether good or bad, I got deleted and banned for longer and longer periods of time by nightrider. That cuck hates me and has followed me around like a creepy hair sniffer and removed everything I posted. The last straw was when I posted about being highly addicted to the game and it got deleted.
Everything you hated about elite is exactly what star citizen is doing only it is in alpha ...
If and when star citizen goes bankrupt , can you still play ? Any private servers ?
You may want to peek their funding and let me know if bankruptcy looks like it's even close.
Funny I am thinking of ditching SC to try elite dangerous for the 1st time...
I wonder one year later if you are still thinking this was the right choice.
@@thierrybo6304 The right choice for everyone? Maybe not. The right choice for me as a personal decision to make? Absolutely.
Hey, I check back about every 10 years to see if anything has changed in Star Citizen. Still the same basically.
lol i just watched this whole vid again before realizing i watched it and commented a year ago, ive only just recently gotten a gpu that is good enough that i dont have to try and play Star Citizen at 13 fps lol, my old card was older then SC itself so ive been playing nearly every day now and it just gets better and more fun every time, i cannot compare ED and SC because besides them being space sims, that is the only thing they have in common, SC is leagues ahead of any other game of the genre.
You went from playing a game to play scam game where the FPS is flying like a roller coaster and im not even talking about the fact that 90 percent of players wont even start it. Not much and none of your made up reasons will justify it. I hope you enjoy this unplayable game, but I actually think you play Elite when no one is watching. xD
SC is not unplayable, its in a more playable state the ED will ever be and lightyears better then that joke called Starfield and unlike some people that base their rants on the rants of others, ive actually played them all to form my own opinion, yes ED is fun and i will still play it but SC is so much better in every way, Starfield on the other hand I will never play again.
star citizen is a scam and elite dangerous is an infinitely better game in every tangible & measurable way.
@@sonnyankau9239 Tell me how Star Citizen is a scam. Convince me beyond reasonable doubt.
@@The9thDivine tell me a single other video game in history that's got nearly a billion in funding that didn't release after nearly a decade. it's okay that you've bought into it, but you will regret it when you get punched in the face by reality.
@@sonnyankau9239 So when I asked you to convince me why it's a scam, you tell me "well the funding and no release yet"? Not a great start so far but I'll let you continue.
@@The9thDivine wow this person is clueless.
@@sonnyankau9239 I got my first look at SC in 2014 just after a backed it and ive watched it grow since then, step by step, watching Chris and his team make this game out of nothing, they invented so many things to be able to implement mechanics into their game that would other wise be impossible they, they invented server meshing which other companies are also jumping onto to, which is a massive breakthrough for the open world game genre, everything in Star Citizen is made by the CIG team, its not taken from anywhere else and no other Space Sim has ever done that, and most likely never will because that comes from dedication to your players, in case you dont know yet, Chris Roberts, the guy who pretty much started this was one of the leads on Freelancer, one of the best Space games ever made, until microsoft made him leave because he wanted to much for the game and so the game stood for a year longer and had alot less in it then what it could have had, now Freelancer came out in 2003 and by todays standards it is still good in terms of gameplay and looks plus you can still play an MMO version of it to this day with more systems and more ships and its now called Discovery Freelancer, so Star Citizen is by no means a scam and Chris Roberts will never walk away from his own project and his fans.
This aged well. :D
Real talk, WHY do you NEED to walk around your ship? I genuinely hate the fact I have to spend minutes walking through my ship and playing the "realism" aspect in Star Citizen, it doesn't add anything gameplay wise and frankly I find it all as a detriment. Besides "realism", what gameplay does it add?
you're hilarious, you probably also someone that will never have a car, because, what will that add? if you do then you probably have an automatic and the only thing you know about it is you need to give it some kind of fuel every now n then
@Reginald-Erasmus weird conclusion to come to. I drive a manual Evo X with an exedy heavy duty clutch. I've been modding cars and driving manuals practically since I got my licence. My profile picture is an Evo V because the last car I owned was an Evo V. Dumb assumption to have made 😂 Edit: Your pfp looks to be a Ninja 600 (hard to tell on a 50x50 inage of the front end from a distance). I used to own a ZX2R which I replaced the idler cable, clutch cable, headers, and various other parts including rebuilding the brakes. 😅
Since sc's in such an unplayable mess, going back to elite made me realize how good it is these days.
You ranted about EDangerous feeling like being Beta and started praising Star citizen while acknowledging you are an alpha tester. How does it feel like after a year? Have you best the elevator boss yet?
@@denizorsel1029 Allow me to correct you. Star Citizen is a *known alpha* game by anyone who plays it. The “rant about ED feeling like a beta” didn’t occur, as I am only referring to a single DLC that was *advertised* to hell and high water as a feature packed and fully functioning product. And it was neither. I’ve also beaten the elevator boss every time I’ve faced him, on the hardest difficulty.
I hear what you're saying, but the ED devs are kind of right. I mean, they are the ones that have achieved a functioning and beautiful game, because they focused on core gameplay instead of idea / scope creep. Will SC win in the end? If it succeeds, sure. But, by any project manager's measure of success, Elite succeeded efficiently where SC did not. Whether EV activities make for good gameplay completely depend on the amount of dev time that can go into it, and with intentional design. The X series did this for the sake of doing it, and the community's #1 complaint after all the hype was that walking around stations was tedious and boring. The game has to provide a compelling FPS realism transfer from the ground up, not from the sky down.
Elite vs star citizen, elite better for me and devs never lye if say release inside ship walf is release now coming base build update and ned expasion pack (probably new dlc) after base build release on ED, SC for me dead developers cant fix servers, elite server better but not graphic maybe after 1,0 i back play that scam citizen
Elite servers are better? - how did that blockade event go a few days ago?.. we have 600 player servers in SC and the population to fill them without needing a coordinated event.. just log in
This video didn't age well
Explain how so.
9:02 This Bug still exist in 2025
Good summarization of the events. While I didn’t go for the janky experience of Star Citizen, I did quit playing Elite Dangerous over it. If they get Star Citizen running well, I may try it again. Otherwise, I’ll continue to looking.
With Elite refusing to listen to their customers and deliver game critical features, and SC ballooning with scope creep and having a never release business model. I think I'm just going to give up.
SC used to earn Elite levels of revenue, before the 'scope creep'. We wanted it - and put our $ where our mouth is , which is why SC earns more PER YEAR than the entire 2012 to present day time line of elite dangerous. If SC has no business model, why do they earn more than StarField, EvE, Elite, No Mans Sky, X4 and ALL the other space games? ..why is Elite adopting SC's funding model? .. they want to get back to the good old days when they could afford 100 developers working on Elite. SC has 1,200+
oh you definitely look like you play Star Citizen
when Star Citizen gets VR support will talk
and the whole thing about running to your cockpit you got that bro I don't want to spend 30 minutes a day running it to my cockpit when I could just pop straight in
@@reckacyde 30 minutes is a far over exaggeration. And still, I’d rather have some immersion, as opposed to Elite, where I *am* the ship itself. I’d much rather be the actual pilot of it instead.
you don't understand how graphics and Computing works and it shows
@@reckacyde Huh? 😂
Who asked
You're here, aren't you?
I really enjoyed it on Xbox series x, I’ve spent months on the game got a load of ships and stuff and then they stopped updating the console which instantly killed it, hence why I switched over to No man’s sky
Star Citizen isnt even playable, end of discussion. You dont thave persistence and you dont have even a stable game everytime they update something.
Sure, the game has had a few rough patches that do in fact fuck with stability. There is no arguing that. "Star Citizen isn't even playable." I could link you hundreds of videos and multiple Twitch channels, including my own, that show the game is very playable.
X4
Played both, which is better.. Elite, it's finished and doesn't cost a mortgage. Disagree with me after you've tried SC for 5 years.
@@IndigoSun-hz6cq I have tried SC for five years, and it doesn’t cost a mortgage. $45 for a game package. Spend a little more if you want, and don’t if you don’t want. It’s pretty easy not to.
@@The9thDivine The business model of nearly a BILLION dollars in ship sales suggest otherwise.
@@IndigoSun-hz6cq There are 5.5 *million* backers. Not 5.5 million high end ship buyers, but total game package owners, no matter which ship they bought to start with. The $1 billion mark likely won't hit until 2027, after the release of Squadron 42 in 2026.
@@The9thDivine Honestly, I've heard all the metric justifications over the years. The business model is absolutely based on the continuance of the status quo. The moment they complete, revenue stops, when even mediocre players can grind a capital ship because there are no more resets CIG' income flops. Sure, sales from tinsel etc.
@@The9thDivine lol, 2 years, we really have heard that before!
I wonder what your opinion is about Star Citizen today; still alpha and is a great game destroyed with too many bugs!!!
@@MrPersonatus I still heavily enjoy it, probably even more so than at the time of this video. Sure the game has a lot of bugs with different things but bugs occur in every game.
Show me the way you are running across the cockpit in Star Citizen and deal with all those toxic spills you've mentioned talking about drawbacks of the Elite. If not, so please stop complaining
@@LastSurvivour I can’t show you something that’s not in the game yet, can I?
@@The9thDivine then you cannot compalin of it in comparing the two games like another game has it.
@ I absolutely can, but I also never said that Star Citizen had it. It was FDev who *originally said* that it was something they had planned for in Elite, not Star Citizen.
I recently moved back to elite from Star Citizen. SC is just a broken tech demo that needs another decade or two to cook. Elite has everything any space sim fan wants and needs. Bar ship interiors lol. I'm glad to see a huge player spike in ED. Hopefully 2025 is a year of rebirth for ED
These videos are phenominal i hope you begin to create videos again in the future 🙏
This sounds like a very bias review/critique. I'd wager that some financial incentive was involved too ;)
Ah yes, the "if you tell anyone you like something, you must be on company payroll" comment. If any entity pays me to talk about something, I am legally required to make that known to my audience. This includes FTC 15 U.S.C. §§ 41-58, the AVMSD under the European Union, and the CAP Code in the United Kingdom, just to name a few.
awoken dude:) Never played elite, because it is basically empty game
I went the other way. I ditched Star Citizen for Elite Dangerous. After years of playing SC, the eternal bugs and crashes just got too annoying. You can spend 20-30 minutes just equipping and getting to your ship only to have the thing blow up for no reason. The mismanagement and feature creep are enough to drive you insane. Switched to ED as a new player and everything.... works. Like everyone says, the sound is amazing and the visuals are stunning. Plus I just got a VR headset and it could be this is the best gaming experience of my life. Plus you get to see and look around your ship interiors (with VR). It's not the same as being able to have amazing shoot-out battles on a moving ship like in SC, but don't forget this is a SPACE SIM. SC recently opened up Pyro bringing their total number of systems to..... 2. Compare that with being able to explore the whole Milky Way and you get my point.
Yea, The sense of scale that Elite Dangerous gives me, especially in VR is amazing. Even just looking around the cockpit in VR makes the ship feel huge. Seeing planets and suns grow in my vision as I get closer. The best video that describes how good it is this: Elite Dangerous VR is a Nightmare ruclips.net/video/Fa0b2Kd2xhU/видео.htmlsi=SnxtvOl21O4hQtYW And this video is pretty good but describes how, yet again, the ED devs don't care about the players. ruclips.net/video/0tHKx3-N6EM/видео.htmlsi=8Y3cMSupalCN-4ME
Star Citizen has 95 star systems in total. Elite Dangerous has 350 billion. ~250 million systems explored, 0.08% of the map. Ten years later, you can still get in game and chart plenty of empty space. AND, with colonization coming, SC + EVE = ED.
Because you has been scamed XD
@@Wendar96 This comment is constantly regurgitated. Tell me why I’ve been scammed. Beyond that, convince me.
@@The9thDivine 10 years of development, and we still get only 2 star systems (promised 100), core mechanics still not ready or work (99% game bugged). Wipes every patch, only pledgestore only hardcore. Fakes about engine techs. Outdated graphics (just land on random point of planet or moon and look around) and all poorly thought out game mechanics. Game engine very bad and too outdated. Ships quickly become obsolete and are not thought through for future (like coni or reclaimer) 700kkk gamedev lol. Scam Citizen
@@Wendar96 "Wipes every patch" - Although wipes do occur for major patches, this would still be incorrect. If periodic progression wipes somehow mean that a game is a scam, take a look at Escape from Tarkov. "Core mechanics still not ready or work" - 99% bugged is a *far* stretch to declare a game is a scam. The most you could be referencing here in terms of 'core mechanics' would be some issues with character customization, repairing and refueling, and perhaps some combat mechanics and physics. That's not 99%. "Only pledgestore, only hardcore" - A game package is $45 for a starter ship and the game. You are not forced to spend any more money on the game than you want to. "Outdated graphics" - Are we playing the same game? "Game engine very bad and too outdated" - You do realize that game engines are constantly being updated, especially StarEngine? "Ships become quickly obsolete" - Ships don't technically become 'obsolete'. Newer ships or technologies come with more advanced features, functionality, or better design. They might feel "out of place" but I'd consider it more vintage or nostalgic appear for those ships because they old a place with their original design, purpose, or fanbase. The funding for Star Citizen has been divvied between it, and the single player story game, Squadron 42. S42 has been feature complete for a year and is expected to release (per CIG) in 2026.
@@The9thDivine Escape from Tarkov - this is a game, it has not been developed for 10 years and has not collected 700kkk donations, having a minimum of content. Since 2013, I can’t even play for 30 minutes without every element of game breaking. The ship from $45 package can't do anything. Yes, again, just land on random plase on planet and you see 10 yesrs of development. I cant put url link to screenshots here, unfortunately. There is no StarEngine, this is CryEngine which was also called Lumberyard lol. This is an outdated engine, with outdated shaders and all other, which cannot cope with the scale they make. Just look at Freelancher for another example. The ship was not thought out at all, it was created according to old design rules, and still not updated. Like Constelation, like Reclaimer and etc etc and again etc. Yeah, of course it will. The core of the engine and the games are completely unprepared and look terrible, unoptimized, buggy, and uncomfortable.
@ Star Citizen is also a game. If you can’t play for 30 minutes, I’m curious about “every element breaking”. A $45 package gives you a ship and the game. That’s literally all you need to *play the game.* It is StarEngine. Heavily modified from CryEngine, but they are not the same. And yet, still not outdated.
One more Elite player coming to SC 😆 o7 and welcome fellow captain!🎉 7 months imade the jump and doesn't regret m'y Anaconda! The game starts to be a game... It matures well😊
Many of the Star Citizen points are rendered moot with 4.0. You get your own hanger on every station. Sometimes you need to land outside on a pad.
😂😂😂😂😂..... promoting Star Citizen whilst calling other Devs 'shady as fuck' 😂😂😂😂😂 Cheers bud- I needed a good laugh
The author is deluded. Throwing more of his money into the game makes it better. Yeah right lol. There is still no game yet available ....
I *never* say that throwing more money into the game "makes it better." Specifically, I said that my contribution *helps* the game, because it does. It seems that I constantly have to remind people that funding for Star Citizen is divvied between it, and Squadron 42, with S42 likely taking more priority, that of which is feature complete as of 2023, and per CIG, is expected to release 2026.
